| 齊國有一個人,姓毛名空,最喜歡講一些誇大不實的話。它雖然說的頭頭是道,聽的人卻覺得前後矛盾,牛頭不對馬嘴, 十分可笑。 | Qiguo you yige ren, xing Mao ming Kong, zui xihuan giang yixie kuadabushíde hua. Ta suiran shuo-de toutou shi dao, ting-de ren yù juede qianhou maodun, niutou bu dui mazui, shifen kexiao. | During the State of Qi there was once a man called Kong, surname Mao who loved to exaggerate. Although what he said sounded convincing, everybody thought it was contradictory and irrelevant, completely silly. |
| 有一次,艾先生從楚國旅行回來。毛空去看望他,兩人就閒聊起來。 | You yici, Ai xiansheng cong Chuguo lüxing huilai. Mao Kong qu kan-wang ta, liang ren jiu xianliao qilai. | There was once that a Mr. Ai returned from the State of Chu. Mao Kong went to see him and the two started chatting. |
| 艾先生說:「我這一次到楚國去了好幾個月,我們國內可有什麼新聞?請你講一兩件給我聽聽,好不好?」 | Ai xiansheng shuo: “Wo zhe yici dao Chuguo qule hao jige yue, women guonei ke you sheme xinwen? Qing ni jiang yi-liang jian gei wo tingting, hao bu hao?” | Mr. Ai said, “This time I was away in Chu for several months, has anything happened in the local news? Tell me a few things that have happened, okay?” |
| 毛空說:「你要聽新聞,那我可多得很。在京城郊外的一個農家,一隻母鴨孵出一百多隻小鴨。」 | Mao Kong shuo: “Ni yao ting xinwen, na wo keduo-dehen. Zai Jingcheng jiaowai de yige nongjia, yizhi muya fu-chu yibai-duo-zhi xiao ya.” | Mao Kong said, “News, I have many. In the suburbs of the capital was a farmer whose duck laid one hundred chicks.” |
| 艾先生搖搖頭說:「沒有這個道理,你不要胡說。」 | Ai xiansheng yaoyao-tou shuo: “Meiyou zhege daoli, ni bu yao hushuo.” | Mr. Ai shook his head saying, “Impossible, don’t talk nonsense.” |

| 艾先生很不耐煩地說:「我請問你,鴨子的主人叫什麼名字?肉掉在什麼地方?你能舉出證據嗎?」 | Ai xiansheng hen bu naifandi shuo: “Wo qing wèn ni, yazi de zhuren jiao sheme mingzi? Rou diao zai sheme difang? Ni neng ju-chu zhengju ma?” | Mr. Ai impatiently replied, “Let me ask you, what’s the name of the duck’s master? Where did the meat fall? Do you have evidence?” |
| 毛空說:「你這個人真死心眼。馬路上的人都這麼說,難道還會假嗎?」 | Mao Kong shuo: “Ni zhege ren zhen sixinyan. Malu-shang-de ren dou zheme shuo, nandao hai hui jia ma?” | Mao Kong said, “You (this kind of person!) are so stubborn. Everybody on the road says so, how could it not be true?” |
